Need for strong academic-industry nexus

Over the course of the last hundred years, business has transformed the world. It has been a driving force in shaping society and the catalyst behind extraordinary economic growth and opportunity. Effective management of business has spurred the creation of jobs, the generation of wealth and access to opportunity for an increasingly diverse population. Management educationhas produced leaders capable of creating effective organisations that are the core of these profound global achievements. The complexities that global competition has unfolded have thrown up new challenges that threaten the very survival of many organisations and

rendering the current business scenario into an Olympics, where only the fittest survive

(Singh and Bhandarker, 2002).

Start at the very beginning

“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.” This is the opening line of the famous song ‘Do Re Mi’ from the movie The Sound of Music. It more or less sums up the meaning of the expression. When you ‘start from scratch’, you make a fresh or a new start; you create something new. If, after reading your report,

your boss tells you to start from scratch, what he wants you to do is to rewrite it. He wants you to

discard the firstdraft and start afresh. He wants something new, something better.
